THE BALL OUT OF THE CIRCLE: The players get into a circle. They stand close to each other. The leader is in the center of the circle. The players pass the ball behind their backs so that the leader can't see it. The leader must guess who has the ball in his/her hands. The leader points at the player who (to his/her mind) has a ball in his/her hands. This player must hold out his/her hands forward at once. If he/she really has a ball in his/her hands, he/she becomes the leader. If there is a greater number of players you may pass 2 balls at the same time and have 2-3 leaders.
For this fourth of July game, half the players go outside the door, while those who stay in the room choose a word related to the fourth of July, which should not be too difficult. For instance, suppose the word chosen be "Flag," those who are out of the room are informed that a word has been thought of that rhymes with "Lag," and they then have to act without speaking, all the words they can think of that rhyme with "Lag." Supposing their first idea be "Nag," they come into the room and one player starts pointing their finger at the other players making repetitive gestures about the players. This not being correct, they would get hissed for their pains, and they must then hurry outside again. They might next try "Gag," The players would come into the room holding their throat and covering their mouths with disgusted looking faces. Again they would be hissed. At last the the players enter the room and walk as though they are marching with flags proudly displayed at their sides. The loud clapping that follows tells them that they are right at last. They then change places with the audience, who, in their turn, become the actors. This festive game is fun for adults and children to play.
For fun on the fourth of July, take your pencil and write on the top of your paper the following words, "Person, Place, or Thing" related to the fourth of July. Then tell your companion that you are going to think of, for instance, a thing. Put down the first and last letters of the thing, and place crosses for the letters that have been omitted. For example, write down on the paper F*******s. Your companion would have to think of all the things related to the fourth of July, that he could remember, which contained nine letters, and begin with the letter F and end with "s." If the second player after guessing several times "gives it up," the first player would tell him that the thing thought of was "Fireworks," and the first player would then think of another Person, Place, or Thing related to the fourth of July and write it down in a similar manner. If, however, the name of the thing was guessed, then it would be the second player's turn to take the paper and pencil. This games theme is based on ideas from the fourth of July. This festive game could include prizes and other party favors for the winners.
