RUNNING THE TRAP: Divide up into 2 teams. Tie 2 balloons to each ankle of the players. These are "traps". At the command the players of the teams run to the finish competing in speed. The next player in each team begins to run when his/her partner has reached the finish. For each burst balloon the team gets a penal point.
This is a game to play in celebration of Oktoberfest. One of the children is chosen as Grand Oktoberfest. The others then form a circle with the Grand Oktoberfest in the center, and every action which he performs, if preceded by the words, "Thus says the Grand Oktoberfest," must be imitated by every member of the circle.
The Grand Oktoberfest, in order to lead one of the children astray, will sometimes omit to say the words: "Thus says the Grand Oktoberfest;" in this case, if any member of the children imitate his action, he is compelled to pay a forfeit by sitting out of the game until a new game is started.
This game is full of singing and dancing to celebrate Oktoberfest. In this game the children join hands and walk round in a circle, singing the following words:
Green gravel, green gravel, your grass is so green,
The fairest young damsel that ever was seen.
I'll wash you in new milk and dress you in silk,
And write down your name with a gold pen and ink.
Oh! (Mary) Oh! (Mary) your true love is celebrating Oktoberfest;
He's sent you a letter to turn round your head.
When the players arrive at that part of the song, "Oh, Mary!" they name some member of the children; when the song is finished, the one named must turn right round and face the outside of the ring, having her back to all the other players. She then joins hands in this position and the game continues as before until all the players face outward. They then recommence, until they all face the inside of the ring as at first.
